If you've ever waited for a shortlist page to load one giant original-resolution image at a time, you'll know exactly how frustrating that can be — especially when you're a judge trying to make quick, considered decisions. v2.48 fixes this properly, from the ground up.
Automatic resizing
Every upload is now saved in four sizes behind the scenes.
Dramatically faster
Shortlists and judging screens load far quicker than before.
Zero entrant friction
Uploads work exactly as they did before. Nothing to learn.
Best in class for scale
A game-changer for large, image-heavy awards programmes.
Four sizes, one upload
Each image an entrant uploads on a form or nomination is now automatically saved in four variants:
Every page that needs an image can now pick the right size for the job — delivering a crisp picture at a fraction of the file weight. The original is always kept too, available whenever full fidelity is actually needed.
The scale that makes the difference
Image-heavy awards finally feel light on their feet.
For large awards programmes with hundreds or thousands of visual entries, this is a transformative upgrade — pages that used to crawl now load crisply. Judges keep moving, admins keep reviewing, and nobody waits for a 10MB JPG to decompress.
Where you'll feel it most
Three screens get the biggest and most immediate boost — each a place where image loading has historically been a bottleneck during busy judging seasons:
-
Shortlists
Loading a shortlist of visual entries now feels snappy, even for the largest categories.
-
Judging screens
Jumping between entries while scoring is noticeably quicker — a real quality-of-life win for judges.
-
Admin review
Admin review pages feel quicker and more responsive, which adds up over the hundreds of entries an event team gets through.
For your entrants
Nothing to learn. Nothing to change.
Entrants upload images in exactly the same way they always have. All the magic happens behind the scenes — their experience is identical, but everything downstream of them is faster.
Nothing changes for entrants
One of the nicest things about this update is that it's completely transparent to the people submitting entries. The upload box looks the same, works the same, and accepts the same file types. All the resizing happens in the background, after the upload has completed.
You don't need to send any announcements, update any guidance, or train entrants on anything new. The platform just quietly got faster.
What stays unchanged
A couple of sensible exceptions are worth knowing about — in these cases, the system continues to show the original image:
Two cases where the original is still used
Images uploaded before this release continue to work exactly as they did previously, using the original resolution. New uploads from v2.48 onwards get the full multi-size treatment.
Certain file formats — including SVG, GIF and HEIC — also continue to use the original image, as they're best handled that way.
Faster, calmer, better
Little in software is quite as satisfying as making something that used to be slow suddenly feel fast. For teams running image-rich awards programmes, this is the sort of under-the-hood work that pays itself back every single day of judging season.
Upload. Resize. Judge. Done — all a lot quicker than before.
